Welcome!

My name is Emma Kate, born in '97 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

I created this blog as a way to share my work, to express and experiment with different styles and literary mediums. My goal is to become a more well-rounded writer, to dabble with and further expand my understanding of literature. I also want to use this blog as an opportunity to exhibit some of my work for those who may find interest- I hope to have something for everyone!

My Story

When I was around seven years old, my dad introduced me to the world of the Lord of the Rings, and I have never been the same again. He made a point of letting me know I was asking too many questions and suggested I make a list of all my queries- needless to say, it was a lengthy list of curiosity and awe. Each Christmas I was gifted with the newest addition of Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, and even Transformers- each disk came with a behind-the-scenes. I quickly realised how interested I was in learning how movies were made; the nitty-gritty, the minute details. To this day, I firmly believe every movie and series deserves a detailed look into how everything came together.

At age 16, I got a job at the local Video store- I wooed the manager by telling him my favourite movie was Fight Club (I can now finally admit that Jim Carey's rendition of the Grinch has, and always will, be the best movie of all time!).

Working at the Video Spot was a dream come true. I loved everything about it; even re-stacking, organising, and taking inventory, It was my library of cinematic gold. I definitely took advantage of my discount- never leaving the store without at least two DVDs tucked under my arm.

But the best part was working with customers. People were coming to me with the hopes of a good recommendation! That was heaven to me.

After finishing high school, I enrolled at AFDA to obtain a higher certificate in film and Major Motion media. I then went on to complete a Level 3 TEFL ESL certificate. In 2022, I also received a certificate from UCT for Copy-Editing. I thoroughly enjoy taking courses, revelling in the opportunity to learn something new and build up my credentials within the world of Film and English.

As for the future of Emma, I aim to become a Freelancer, dabbling in many mediums as possible. Some aspirations would be to publish short stories, work in a writer's room, and to create documentaries that highlight and give a voice to those who have been silenced.
